Herb's No-Fuss Bottle-Filler

Who likes bottling? Not me.

So I am always on the lookout for other ways to get my beer into bottles for one-offs, competitions and gifts.

At our club Christmas party last year Herb Adams (Brewing with Herb) showed me how he does it.

Herb had a length of stainless steel tubing leftover from another project and it proved to be the perfect diameter to fit in the tips of his forward-sealing faucets. He flanged the end of the tubing slightly and his new filler was done.

All Herb does come bottling time is unscrew the tip of his faucet, slide the sanitized tube into the tip and screw it back on.

The pipe is long enough to fill any bottle from the bottom up and he can even set up a second faucet to dispense cO2 for purging his bottles first.

I love smart little things like this!

Note: This is not a replacement for counter pressure bottle filler or similar device. This is a "bottle and go" option meant to be used to bring to a party or club meeting and to be consumed with in 48 hours.

Good point, Herb. But I think if you flush your sanitized bottles with co2 this is a great way to bottle for competitions as long as two weeks in advance!

Cut off dip tubes also work well - unscrew the faucet tip, slide in the dip tube (with o-ring in place), screw the tip back on and you're in business! I remember seeing that one somewhere on the Internet, but don't recall the source . . .

Great idea, Dick! Having the o-ring in place would make for a nice seal.

This is great. I have two kegs that are trash. I will just pull the dip tubes before they get recycled. I use the beergun which is great for doing a bunch of bottles but for a couple on the go this sounds perfect.
